Golden Globe Nominations

An interesting set of nominations to say the least.

The Good: The Best Picture-Drama nominees are all really incredible, so I can't complain (although I will later). I am also happy that The Kids Are All Right got a boost today, after a particularly rough week. I was also excted about the Red nomination, as I thought it was hilarious.The Blue Valentine love for Gosling and Williams, whose buzz just keeps building, was fanastic. And while it may have not been the best movie, the nod for Michael Douglas, is a nice tip of the hat to an incredible actor, who may not be with us much longer. Finally, the Jacki Weaver and Mila Kunis nominations are awesome, and hopefully cement their status as future Oscar nominees. Ok, one more thing, the Emma Stone nomination is fantastic as well.

The Bad - Seriously HFPA, The Tourist? I figured Burlesque would get in, as well as Alice in Wonderland, but you have become too star-hungry, stooping to the level of The Tourist just to get Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp there. Also, I love Michael Douglas, and am glad he got recognized (see above), but you could have put him for Solitary Man in Best Actor, instead of giving Depp two undeserved nominations.

The Ugly - No True Grit. Period. While this is not neccessarily an omen (Crash didn't either and it won Best Picture), it doesn't look good. Although they have never been keen on the Coen Bros. Hopefully Bridges/Damon/Steinfield/The cast get some recognition Thursday from SAG. Another travesty is no Leslie Manville. Seriously, the woman was incredible, and if Another Year was deemed a Comedy (not sure if it was or not), then nominating The Tourist over it was absolutely unforgivable.
