Grammy Nominations: Analysis

Album of the Year
Arcade Fire's nomination is probably the best surprise in this category. Lady Gaga getting in isn't all that surprising, and actually deserved. Eminem getting in isn't a shock, but I can think of much better rap acts that should have gotten a nod instead including Jay-Z, The Roots, and Big Boi. Lady Antebellum definitely had the best country album in this time frame, so there nod is also well-deserved. However, Katy Perry's nod is not deserved. She makes really catchy hits, and I thought her California Gurls was a shoo-in for a Record of the Year nod. Instead they snub her in a category where a nod would actually be deserved, and give the entire album a nod. Seems as if the Grammys got their wires crossed. I would have loved to have seen Big Boi, Carole King and James Taylor, or Sade get in instead.

Record of the Year
To be honest, four of these nominees were no shock, and were not nominations that upset me. I was thoroughly pleased by Cee-Lo's inclusion for the most infectious song of the year. However, the B.O.B. nod really gets my goat, particularly since Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, which was the biggest song of the year was excluded.

Best New Artist
Besides the awful nomination of the talentless Justin Bieber, the other nods were either expected (Drake), or incredibly deserved (Florence + The Machine)
