Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Will Win - Ty Burrell "Modern Family"
Should Win - Ed O'Neill "Modern Family"
Could Win - Chris Colfer "Glee"

Commentary - So Ed O'Neill finally got his Emmy nomination. After years of being one of the funniest guys on television, he is finally in a place where he can actually get honored for it. That being said, it is unfortunate that his episode submission, while good, isn't quite as good as another co-star of his, and while the sentimentality may help him win, I have to say no. I don't think two of his co-stars will either. Eric Stonestreet doesn't have the knock-out episode submission that he had last year when he won his Emmy. Jesse Tyler Ferguson has a hilarious episode, with lots of physical comedy, but I don't think he can stand up against his co-stars. Jon Cryer somehow snuck in again into this category, maybe as a nice middle finger to Charlie Sheen, but he has no place here anymore, and his episode submission is terrible, so I am hoping that God doesn't have a sense of humor and have his name called out. So in my opinion it comes down to two. Chris Colfer is a star on Glee, which is an understatement, and his gay bullying storyline was poignant, timely, and shows off his talent. The problem is, he is not necessarily funny, particularly in his episode submission which is overly dramatic. While it shows off his talent as an actor, it doesn't show his humorous side. And while the lead categories have gone dramatic, it seems that the supporting ones have stuck with the over the top hilarious, so while Colfer definitely has a chance, I think that a hilarious performance will win instead, which leads me to Ty Burrell. Like Stonestreet last year, Burrell has an incredibly funny episode, which is the best of the bunch. While I think his is not as slam dunk as Stonestreet's was, I think it will be enough for him to win an Emmy Award.
