2012 Emmy Contenders: Writing in a Comedy Series

Will Win - Lena Dunham "Girls"
Should Win/Could Win - Amy Poehler "Parks and Recreation - The Debate"
Could Win - Louis C.K. "Louie - Pregnant"
Commentary - A lot of great talent populates this race, but I think that one particular newcomer is ahead of them all. I personally would love to see Amy Poehler finally win an Emmy, and The Debate was one of the best comedy episodes of any series period to air this past season. Louis C.K. is another possibility, but in the end I think that the young talent of Lena Dunham, who writes, directs, stars in and produces Girls will prevail for her popular and somewhat controversial Pilot of Girls. And while some of you will point out that both Poehler and C.K. got acting nods as well, meaning that they are well involved in their shows too (C.K. also got a directing nod), Girls managed to get into Comedy series, whereas Louie and Parks and Recreation both surprisingly did not make the cut. I figure that will four individual nominations including Best Comedy Series, that Dunham will win at least one award, and I think this is the one that will do it for her.

  1. Some super genius nominees occupy this, and I would've given the award to Louis C.K. for his always great writing/direction on Louie, but of course I think that Poehler will get this if she loses Lead Actress.

  2. And see I thought about that too, whether the writer's branch will try to make up for Poehler continually missing out in Actress with a writing win? An interesting thought, and definitely a possibility.
