2013 Tony Award Predictions: Best Actor in a Play

Will Win - Tom Hanks "Lucky Guy"

Could Win - David Hyde Pierce "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" or Nathan Lane "The Nance"

Commentary -  Both David Hyde Pierce and Nathan Lane are recognizable names on both the Broadway stage (both are Tony winners), and both have tons of cross-over appeal that makes then nice names to check off on a ballot. Plus, reviews suggest that both are excellent in their respective projects. But this year, the great Tom Hanks has made his Broadway debut in the final project of the late, great Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy. He is an Emmy and Oscar award winning actor and producer, and one of the most recognizable and beloved actors of all time. While the other two are more Tony-friendly picks, Tom Hanks is well, Tom-freaking-Hanks. Expect him to win his first Tony Award.
