Other Contenders - Kenneth Branagh "Wallander", Dominic West "The Hour", Ben Whishaw "The Hour", Diogo Morgado "The Bible"
Commentary - No matter what happens at the Emmy awards, I feel confident that Behind the Candelabra will take home at least one gold statue for this category. Michael Douglas is clearly the frontrunner as Liberace, but if some fluke of voting happened on the ballot, I feel confident his co-star Matt Damon would take it instead. Beyond that there are several names that could make the cut. I feel confident that despite Phil Spector's lack of critical respect, Al Pacino will definitely make the cut, if for no other reason that he is a living acting legend. The last two slots however do have some flexibility. The duo at the head of The Hour, Ben Whishaw and Dominica West are possibilities, as is Diogo Morgado for his role in the rating success The Bible. It has been a while since Kenneth Branagh got some recognition for Wallander, but this is a particularly weak year in this race, so he could be a popular name to check off. My gut tells me that instead, Toby Jones, in the mediocre The Girl, will get in for his actually good portrayal of Alfred Hitchcock (he was a lot better than the project as a whole). In the final slot, I am going with the well-reviewed Parade's End and its star Benedict Cumberbatch, who was a nominee last year, and is currently in the high-profile box office success Star Trek Into Darkness. While I feel that the buzz for the project as a whole is not strong, he is popular enough to get in on his own merit.
