2014 Golden Globe Television Predictions

Best Drama Series
Will Win - Breaking Bad
Could Win - House of Cards
Should Win - Breaking Bad or The Good Wife
Commentary - The Globes love their shiny new toys, so don't discount the movie-star filled House of Cards. And I would love to see a surprise win for The Good Wife, for its awesome season so far. But we all know that Breaking Bad ended its series with a bang, and definitely deserves to get a final win. Plus, the show has never won a Golden Globe, and I'm not sure the HFPA wants that on its track record.

Best Comedy Series
Will Win - The Big Bang Theory
Could Win - Brooklyn Nine-Nine or Girls
Should Win - Parks & Recreation
Commentary - It is so nice to see that even though the Emmys have given up on Parks & Rec (a really sad thing to write), I am glad to see that the HFPA still embraces the show. That being said, I think that this is a three way race. Girls was the not new toy, and could repeat, but I think that the buzz has really died for the show in general. Brooklyn Nine-Nine's nomination was a nice surprise, and it definitely deserves recognition. It is the newcomer to the bunch, but I think that the Globes are going to give into the power of The Big Bang Theory (as I think the Emmys finally will soon). Also don't discount Modern Family. It is a winning machine.

Best Actor in a Drama Series
Will Win/Should Win - Bryan Cranston "Breaking Bad"
Could Win - Kevin Spacey "House of Cards"
Commentary - Once again, if the Globes want to pick the new shiny toy, and the star, then Kevin Spacey is their go-to guy. But I think that after never winning for the show, they will finally give Cranston some love.

Best Actress in a Drama Series
Will Win/Should Win - Kerry Washington "Scandal"
Could Win - Tatiana Maslany "Orphan Black" or Robin Wright "House of Cards"
Commentary - I hate to be repetitive, but it is the new contenders versus some older shows. But Kerry Washington has gotten her first Golden Globe, and she is just pure star power right now and Scandal is the hottest show on television.

Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Andy Samberg "Brooklyn Nine Nine"
Could Win - Michael J. Fox "The Michael J. Fox Show" or Jim Parsons "The Big Bang Theory"
Should Win - Parsons
Commentary - I think that one of the newer comedy nominees will take home something and it seems like a race between Michael J. Fox and Andy Samberg. Fox seems like the obvious choice, but the show has done so poorly, and is sure to be cancelled while 9-9 has been solid (not great), and many think that it will get a season 2. So I think Samberg will surprise with a win.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Julia Louis-Dreyfus "Veep"
Could Win - Amy Poehler "Parks & Recreation" or Lena Dunham "Girls"
Should Win - Amy Poehler "Parks & Recreation"
Commentary - They could throw a bone to their hosts and give one to Amy, but with two nominations this year, I think they are going to find a place to reward Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and this would be the place (I don't see her beating Meryl or Amy).

Best TV Movie/Miniseries
Will Win - Behind the Candelabra
Should Win/Could Win - American Horror Story: Coven
Commentary - Coven is AHS's best so far, but they cannot deny the star power and cinematic quality of Behind the Candelabra.

Best Actor in a TV Movie/Miniseries
Will Win/Should Win - Michael Douglas "Behind the Candelabra"
Could Win - Matt Damon "Behind the Candelabra"
Commentary - I really don't see Damon beating Douglas here. He has the flashy role of the bunch as well.

Best Actress in a TV Movie/Miniseries
Will Win - Helena Bonham Carter "Burton and Taylor"
Could Win - Jessica Lange "American Horror Story: Coven" or Elisabeth Moss "Top of the Lake"
Should Win - Really any of the three
Commentary - Lange is great, but AHS has never been a Globe favorite and TOTL was too dark. Carter, the foreigner, playing the big movie star seems like the perfect fit for the Globes.

Best Supporting Actor
Will Win - Jon Voight "Ray Donovan"
Could Win/Should Win - Aaron Paul "Breaking Bad"
Commentary - I don't think Breaking Bad, which has never won a Globe, will sweep. New show, plus living acting legend seems like the perfect combination for HFPA voters.

Best Supporting Actress
Will Win/Should Win - Monica Potter "Parenthood"
Could Win - Sofia Vergara "Modern Family" and Janet McTeer "The White Queen"
Commentary - This category is so off in my opinion. Not that  there aren't talent actresses, just an interesting mix that leaves me completely clueless in terms of predicting. McTeer is the Oscar nominee, and Vegara has been a long time favorite without a win. But neither feel right. I am going instead for Monica Potter. She was snubbed at the Emmys, and maybe I just want her to win. But in a race that has no clear front runner, go with who you think is the best.
