Commentary - This category was so tough last year, that eight nominees emerged, and all eight return to the race: Allison Janney, Julie Bowen, Gaby Hoffman, Niecy Nash, Kate McKinnon, Jane Krakowski, Anna Chlumsky, and Mayim Bialik. Honestly, while there are a lot of contenders, the final list will probably be pulled from those same eight ladies. So if anyone is going to breakthrough this group, who? Well, there legends like Carol Kane, Judith Light, and Dianne Wiest, and the rest of the supporting members of Life in Pieces and Transparent. There are the rest of the SNL cast, and the various supporting characters on Wet Hot American Summer (and its incredible cast with long Emmy histories), Scream Queens (especially Jamie Lee Curtis), You Me Her, The Big Bang Theory, Togetherness, Younger, and black-ish (particularly the extraordinary Jenifer Lewis who steals every single scene she is in, and always is good for comedic relief, even in the show's darker moments). Kether Donohue, and the whole cast of You're the Worst should be in the mix, Christina Hendricks could jump in after her Mad Men run with Another Period, and Noel Wells, Alex Borstein, Martha Kelly, and Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen could get attention for scene-stealing roles. Bernadette Peters is a legend, the girls from Mom round out a great female cast, the Jane of Virgin girls are as deserving as the rest of the show, Debra Winger is a legend, and if I had my way then the Casual supporting players, as well as the duos of Please Like Me and Vicious would be at least be in the conversation. Emmy season is upon us!
