Commentary - These guest categories always afford surprises, and nobody seems to accurately predict them. So let's take these predictions with a grain of salt. Melissa McCarthy has never not been nominated for this category, and she had a hell of a season on SNL. Even as The Big Bang Theory slips, Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski got in, because they are rightfully beloved by these voters. Angela Bassett is a favorite as well, and she is brilliant in Master of None. Kristen Wiig's episode of SNL was no where near her best, but onace again, she is a favorite. Finally, Carrie Fisher's last television role will probably hit voters right in the heart. Make no mistake, these are safe predictions based on past performance, which means at least two of these ladies are vulnerable to the surprise factor that always hits these categories. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as a slew of legends from Laura Dern to Maya Rudolph to Rachel Dratch. Saturday Night Live's hosts like Octavia Spencer, Scarlett Johansson, and Kristen Stewart are always in the mix. While Modern Family continues to slip, don't discount previous nominees like Elizabeth Banks and Jane Krakowski. Finally, while A Series of Unfortunate Events is not a big player in the Emmy race (besides the below the line ones), Joan Cusack and Alfre Woodard are. Don't be shocked if their names are called.
